A profession to be proud of

My other page is a bit harsh on the industry so I thought I would give a little insight into why, regardless of my criticism, I love the profession and will most likely never leave it.

As a child I grew up with both my parents constantly working. My dad working everyday of the week, his 9-5 and then building something for someone on the weekends. My mom on the other hand did her 9-5 and the rest of the time she was correcting something that was done wrong or doing something that hadn’t been finished. I say all this to show I don’t know how to not work. And I say that to show that any profession that doesn’t involve intense work loads is just not going to work for me. Our industry is portrayed as a bunch of kick-back, drinking at lunch, fooseball playing folk who get work done in-between martini Mondays and beer chugging Fridays, when in fact, it is anything but. I have never worked more hours during the week and come in more times on the weekends then in advertising. And the few hours I am not working are spent catching up on the newest technology, reading the latest book or coming up with the next theme line for a client. So lets give us a little pat on the back and be proud of our profession and try to not let it get tarnished by ads without rational and plans with out research.
